Meet Cynthia Gonzales, Paramedical Tattoo Specialist of Empowerment Ink

Please introduce yourself — who you are, your background, what service you provide?
Hi! I’m Cynthia Gonzales, the owner and artist of Empowerment Ink. After caring for patients in the operating room, I realized that healing doesn’t end when surgery is over. I wanted to be able to help in a different way—one that focused on restoring confidence. That’s why I started Empowerment Ink. I provide advanced paramedical tattooing services, including scar camouflage, areola restoration, inkless stretch mark revision, and acne scar treatments. Every treatment is customized, because no two clients' stories are the same.
How did you get started? What led you to this industry? Was it always the plan?
It wasn’t the original plan. I started my career as a surgical technologist, and I genuinely love being part of helping patients through surgery. Over the years I realized that while surgery is amazing and can heal the body, it doesn’t always heal how someone feels about themselves afterward. I’ve always had a creative side, so when I discovered paramedical tattooing, it felt like the perfect way to combine my medical background with artistry. It allowed me to continue helping people, but in a different stage of their healing journey. Starting Empowerment Ink has been incredibly meaningful because it’s about so much more than tattooing. It’s about helping people regain confidence, building community, and supporting each other while we heal. I might not be scrubbing in on your surgery, but I will be here for you after. 🤍
What do you love most about the work? What keeps you motivated and inspired day to day?
What I love most about this work is helping people feel comfortable in their own skin. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of someone’s healing journey. Seeing a client leave feeling more confident than when they arrived is what makes this work so meaningful. What keeps me motivated is knowing I can make an impact every day. Creating a safe space and helping others feel seen, heard, and empowered reminds me exactly how I felt when I chose to start Empowerment Ink.
What's something people don't see or know about your industry?
I think one of the biggest misconceptions is that it’s “just a tattoo.” I LOVE tattoos but the services are different and deserve separate respect. Paramedical tattooing requires a deep understanding of skin, healing, color theory, and how different types of scars respond to treatment. Every client and every treatment is completely unique. What people also don’t see is the emotional side of the work. Many clients are sharing parts of their story they’ve never talked about before. Building trust, listening, and creating a safe space are just as important as the treatment.
What resources, tools, or support do you wish existed?
One thing I wish existed was greater awareness and education about paramedical tattooing. So many people could benefit from treatments like this but they simply don’t know these services are available. Better education for both the public and healthcare providers would help connect people with more resources and access to service providers. I also wish there were more opportunities for collaboration between medical professionals and paramedical tattoo artists. Building stronger relationships with surgeons, dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and other healthcare providers would make it easier for patients to learn about restorative tattooing as part of their healing journey.
What do you want potential clients to know about you or your work?
I want potential clients to know that this work means so much more to me than improving the appearance of skin. Every person who walks through my door has a story, and it’s an honor to be part of it. I believe confidence starts with feeling good in your own skin. That’s why I take the time to listen, educate, and create results that look natural and fit your unique needs. You’re not just receiving a treatment—you’re receiving compassionate care from someone who genuinely wants you to leave feeling more confident, empowered, and like yourself again.
