Meet Alexandra Roman, Hairstylist & Reiki Master at Mane Rumor Salon

Please introduce yourself — who you are, your background, what service you provide?

Hi, I’m Alex Roman, a first-generation Latina, hairstylist of nine years, and Reiki Master of seven years. I work at Mane Rumor Salon in Austin, Texas, and go by The Mane Angel online. I offer lived-in color, but my pride and joy is my Reiki Hair Activation, a ritual designed to activate, awaken, and unite your internal and external self so you can walk in your most empowered self. The ritual begins with your intention and your choice of a curated playlist: Siren, Love Magnet, Lux, or Exhale. We then move into Reiki energy work, using light touch, before sealing your intention through a haircut and style. In my practice, Reiki also supports manifestation by creating space to connect with your intentions and embody the energy you want to invite into your life. This manifestation ritual is designed to activate your main-character, highest-self energy. The music pours affirmations, emotion, and intention into your spirit while I channel Reiki toward your core energy center, bringing those intentions into a deeper, embodied experience.

How did you get started? What led you to this industry? Was it always the plan?

I’ve always wanted to work in beauty and hair, but I took a detour into the dental field before finally following where my heart had been leading me all along. I’ve also been sensitive to energy since childhood, growing up surrounded by spirituality, curanderismo remedies, and overall brujita vibes. Entering the hair industry encouraged me to explore that part of myself more deeply. That journey led me to Reiki, to becoming a Reiki Master, and to a mentorship with psychic medium Cindy Kaza from the Travel Channel show The Dead Files. At first, hair and spirituality felt like two separate worlds. Then I stepped back and realized how much we work with people’s energy as hairstylists. Clients bring their stories, emotions, and life transitions into our chairs. I began incorporating my Reiki practice into my hair services, allowing those two parts of myself to come together naturally. Over time, I noticed that an exterior transformation didn’t always translate into feeling confident within. I wanted to create an experience that encouraged clients to connect what they saw in the mirror with their own self-assurance. That became the heart of my Reiki Hair Activations. Hair was always the dream. Bringing it together with Reiki unfolded along the way. Looking back, I truly believe something higher than myself was guiding me toward creating this experience.

What do you love most about the work? What keeps you motivated and inspired day to day?

At first, my love for this work centered on hair and the psychology behind the chair. But bringing Reiki into my services is what truly made my heart and soul soar. Working behind the chair can become repetitive, and Reiki brought a sense of wonder, creativity, and deeper connection into my career. The whimsy I’ve always carried in my everyday life now has a place in my work, too. What keeps me inspired is getting to invite clients into that magical world with me, a space where beauty, music, intention, and energy come together. Every person brings a different story and intention, making each experience personal and giving me something to look forward to every day.

What's something people don't see or know about your industry?

Something people don’t always see is how much emotion and self-perception come into the salon with a client. A hair appointment can carry the desire to feel seen, mark a new chapter, or reconnect with yourself. In my chair, I’ve noticed two patterns: clients who intentionally nurture their spirit but don’t quite feel ready to be seen, and clients who continually change their appearance yet still struggle to feel satisfied. Those conversations have made me reflect on how difficult it can be to feel confident when your inner dialogue doesn’t offer the same care you give your appearance. That disconnect is something I wish we talked about more in the beauty industry. Women and men alike can struggle to connect who they feel they are inside with how they express themselves outwardly. I want my clients to know they have permission to nurture both. You can care deeply for your spirit and enjoy expressing your beauty physically. I think of it as a silver thread connecting the two: your inner self and outer expression supporting each other. Creating space for that connection is at the heart of my work.

What resources, tools, or support do you wish existed?

If I could ask for more support in one area, it would be resources and tools that improve ergonomics for stylists. I’d love more education on body mechanics and equipment designed to reduce physical strain, so I can protect my body and continue thriving in this industry for as long as possible.

What do you want potential clients to know about you or your work?

I’m not just a Reiki Master hairstylist, I’m a COOL Reiki Master hairstylist. If you caught the Mean Girls reference, you’re a real one! I specialize in lived-in blondes and brunettes, with a sprinkle of gentlemen’s cuts. What makes my work stand out is how I weave Reiki into the experience, blending its soothing, grounding qualities with my love for sexy femme fatale energy, all while doing my best to lead with a good heart and soul. (Listen, I’m human, not perfect. lol) There’s space to relax, reflect, feel sexy, and have fun. My goal is for you to leave with beautiful hair and the confidence to embody what you’ve always admired in your favorite models and main characters, and to give yourself permission to take up space, own your power, and know you’re a Baddie.
